ShareASale terminated my account without reason
I don’t consider myself a vengeful person. Normally I’m very accepting and fairly laid-back. However, I do have a gripe and want to give voice to it.
I’ve been an affiliate with Share-A-Sale for well over a decade with absolutely no issues. They are a company that hosts affiliate programs for online businesses. You sign up as an affiliate and can apply to promote these businesses to receive commissions on sales. Great idea, eh?
I had problems receiving emails from them lately, but this finally got sorted and that was that.
Until the other day…I logged in to see a message that my ShareASale affiliate account had been suspended, but of course no reason was given. I contacted them and someone eventually responded that my account was still active. It wasn’t, I still could not log in. They seemed to have no idea what the issue was. They gave me a bunch of possible violations but none of them applied to me.
To cut a long story short, I received an email from them to say they had terminated my account but absolutely no reason was given, which is typical of websites such as this. Etsy, eBay, Paypal, all of those and others, never tell you why they have done it. I can think of two reasons, but if you can think of any others, please let me know in the comments. In my own personal opinion, these could be the reasons:
- a) Nobody knows, it’s done automatically by some kind of bot, some almighty AI that can’t possibly err!
- b) They do know but don’t want to tell you for fear of some kind of backlash for their reasoning.
But, you may say, they have the right to accept/deny/suspend/terminate any account they want, and they do, but to treat people this disrespectfully is mind-boggling. It’s frustrating and, in my mind, does them no favours. Not giving someone a chance to account for themselves and/or put right whatever it is they think you have done wrong is tantamount to being found guilty with no trial.
Yes, yes, very dramatic, and it’s not the end of the world, but after being with them for so long, having earnings in my account which I have never, ever received, makes me feel a little bitter.
Their reviews on Trustpilot are nothing short of abysmal but it’s very doubtful that bad reviews would bother them as they appear to be raking in the cash enough so they won’t care about that.
It’s a shame I’ve been make to feel like nothing, a mere inconvenience to be done away with on a whim or because some ‘bot’ says so, I guess I’ll never know which.
